From ÉTOILE to SOLACE: Primo Ensemble’s Journey of Music and Service

🎶 A Symphony of Purpose
When melodies drift through the halls of the City of Mandaluyong Science High School, one ensemble stands at the heart of it all — the Primo Ensemble. Their music does more than entertain; it breathes life into the campus, enveloping students and faculty alike in rhythm, emotion, and unity. Each performance becomes a heartbeat of the school, a reminder that art can move and connect people in ways words never could.
🌟 Lighting Up the Season: ÉTOILE 2024
Their journey reached a luminous milestone in December 2024 with their first-ever Christmas recital-concert, ÉTOILE — a name that means “star.” Held on the CMSHS grounds from December 17–18, the event drew nearly 720 attendees and radiated warmth and inspiration. True to its name, ÉTOILE lit up the season with performances that celebrated joy, generosity, and unity.
The concert wasn’t just a showcase of talent; it was a catalyst for change. Funds raised supported the purchase of new instruments — drums, cajòns, microphone stands, and other essential equipment — empowering the ensemble to continue their musical mission. Their performance at the PRAISE (Program on Awards and Incentives for Service Excellence) ceremony on December 19 further underscored their role as ambassadors of excellence.
💖 Music with a Mission: Outreach and Impact
Part of the concert’s proceeds also fueled an outreach program for selected families in Mandaluyong, proving that Primo Ensemble’s purpose extends far beyond the stage. Their music became a bridge of compassion, connecting hearts and spreading kindness throughout the community.
Since then, their presence has grown stronger, resonating weekly through solemn yet stirring performances during the school’s flag ceremonies — adding grace and reverence to this cherished tradition.
🎤 Representing Excellence
Primo Ensemble has proudly represented CMSHS in various high-profile events. They serenaded guests from the Department of Education–Bangsamoro Autonomous Region in Muslim Mindanao (DepEd BARMM) during a benchmarking visit, showcasing the school’s culture of excellence.
Their musical contributions have graced milestone occasions such as the Graduation Ceremonies of Batches 2024 and 2025, the turnover of electronic gadgets from DepEd NCR, and the Awarding Ceremony for Outstanding SDO Mandaluyong Educators and Employees at Kaban ng Hiyas. Their participation in the Solidarity Walk further demonstrated their commitment to sharing harmony and hope with the broader public.
🌌 Looking Ahead: SOLACE 2025
As another festive season approaches, Primo Ensemble prepares to once again fill the air with music and meaning through their upcoming recital-concert, Solace, set for November 27–28, 2025. Building on the success of ÉTOILE, Solace aspires to be an evening of reflection, comfort, and unity.
The event aims to raise funds for additional instruments — keyboards, flutes, and more — to provide aspiring student musicians with the tools to learn and grow. Plans are also underway for another outreach initiative and training programs for BatMans who share the ensemble’s passion for music.
🌈 Solace in Sound
The concert’s title, Solace, encapsulates the ensemble’s message: music as a sanctuary — a source of peace, healing, and connection. Through this performance, Primo Ensemble hopes to remind everyone that music can be a refuge for the soul, a light in moments of quiet, and a bridge that binds people across differences.

With every note and rhythm, Primo Ensemble continues to prove that their music is more than melody — it is a reflection of their heart, dedication, and unity. As they prepare to take the stage once more, they carry not just instruments, but a legacy of service and a commitment to excellence that resonates far beyond the final chord.
