Whisky Maker of the Year Gregg Glass is in the city for a limited engagement

The Dalmore, the definitive luxury single malt whisky since 1839, has unveiled two of its annual release expressions from its principal collection. The Dalmore 18-Year-Old 2022 Release and The Dalmore 21-Year-Old 2022 Release were presented through a special whisky experience by none other than The Dalmore Master Whisky Maker himself Gregg Glass, for the first time at Rustan’s Makati, bringing his critically-acclaimed expertise during a transient visit to the Philippines.

Gregg Glass is a Master Whisky Maker and Blender at The Dalmore. With more than ten years of experience in whisky making, he is well-known for his innovative cognizance in the world of whisky. He joined Whyte & Mackay in 2016, where he got inspired to become a whisky maker. He is personally involved in all aspects of whisky making: from sourcing and creating casks to working at cooperages, distilleries, and cask warehouses, to cask sampling and conducting extensive trials and recipe iterations in a bid for perfecting every minute detail that comes with Scotch whisky making. Gregg comes to the fore at the Highland Distillery, having spent six years working with Richard Paterson OBE, the Master Blender of The Dalmore, to immerse and edify himself in The Dalmore’s exceptional DNA and heritage.

Along with high regard for the sublime tradition and the historical, social, and cultural characteristics of the Scotch whisky industry at large, Gregg believes in the importance of an inquisitive, experimental, and innovative outlook, with a distinctive quality at the helm of all of his endeavors, a characteristic that has not gone unnoticed by the nebulous whisky macrocosm.

Last December 8, 2022, at The Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, amongst the crème de la crème of the whisky industry, ranging from brand ambassadors to visitor attraction managers to master distillers, Gregg Glass was awarded the immensely coveted title of Master Distiller of the Year 2023 at the Icons of Whisky Scotland Awards. Organized by the team behind the Whisky Magazine, the annual competition extols the global whisky industry’s beau monde, all having a common facet connecting them all, individuals who dedicate themselves professionally to whisky.

Positioned at the pinnacle of The Dalmore Principal Collection, The Dalmore 21-Year-Old 2022 Release showcases the care taken to nurture The Dalmore Highland Single Malt Scotch Whisky through 21 years of whisky-making artistry.

The Dalmore 21-Year-Old 2022 Release is an expertly composed spirit that has been matured in rare 30 Year-Old Matusalem Oloroso Sherry casks, exclusive to the distillery as part of its ongoing relationship with Sherry bodega, González Byass. A feast for the senses, The Dalmore 21 Year-Old is a symphony of The Dalmore’s signature DNA of oranges, bitter chocolate, and gentle spices, masterfully layered with Black Forest fruits and sweet licorice sticks. There are roasted walnuts and marzipan on the palate, gliding to a long and lingering finish of ginseng, pear tarte tatin, and Sanguinello blood oranges.

The Dalmore 18-Year-Old 2022 Release

The Dalmore 18-Year-Old is the epitome of The Dalmore distillery’s house style. Meticulously hand-crafted by our Master Distiller and his team of artisans, in line with our age-old whisky-making philosophy. This annual limited edition begins its maturation in American white oak ex-bourbon casks, giving a base of soft vanilla and honey. Further enhancement follows, with a longer finishing time for up to 2 years in 30-year-old hand-selected Matusalem Oloroso Sherry casks, exclusive to The Dalmore, from the González Byass bodega in Spain. The placing of these casks closer to the cold, damp floor and walls of the dunnage warehouses at The Dalmore Distillery as compared to other expressions’ casks, allows this whisky to reach its full potential: an exceptionally unique single malt with a rich, deep chocolate character.
